Lake Tahoe

I’d forgotten how truly stunning Lake Tahoe is! I grew up coming here and have treasured both the winter and summer vacations over the years. Summer has it’s own special dreaminess to it, but winter is pure magic! Walking up to a nearly 360° panorama of snow capped mountains surrounding the nearly still, crystal clear (ice cold) lake is stunning. And no picture captures it! Trust me, we keep trying 🙂

This was the kids first official trip to the snow so there was much playing in wide open fields of snow, digging up rocks along the shore and keeping our eyes peeled for the most ordinary things: squirrels, ducks, slides, tall trees. We were on the north shore, in Incline Village; it was fairly quiet and peaceful throughout the weekend and into Monday and Tuesday. We enjoyed time in the pool, did simple dinners at the condo and tried to figure out sleeping soundly. It was super evident that the altitude and the new surroundings tired everyone out. By the time it was time to leave, the kids totally had it down 🙂

We intentionally didn’t plan too much and wanted to keep things simple. We all loved being at the shore (the view doesn’t hurt!). And keeping the kids out of the 40 degree water was surprisingly most difficult with Emma, she would have crawled in if I hadn’t kept grabbing her (and seriously frustrating her, which is a huge understatement). While things don’t ever get fully *quiet* these days, this was a beautifully backdropped, much needed, quiet-ish time away! <3
